Washburn and OneDrive

All Washburn users have a Microsoft Office 365 account. Each user can hold files online in OneDrive. An integration has been established between Washburn Office 365 and Desire2Learn Brightspace such that OneDrive files can be added to Brightspace courses by faculty and students.

Faculty OneDrive Files in Course Content

Faculty can insert their OneDrive files into the Content area of their Desire2Learn Brightspace courses. When an instructor does this, the document is shared from their OneDrive. This means that changes made in their personal OneDrive will be seen by the students who access the document through the Brightspace course.

If the shared OneDrive file is of a Microsoft Office type (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.), that file can be edited by users accessing it through Content. This allows for collaboration on shared OneDrive documents. If other users editing the document is not desired, an instructor will want to download the file from OneDrive and upload it to Content as with other files.

To add a OneDrive file to Content, within the course:

  • Navigate to Content and the Module where the OneDrive file is to be placed.
  • Select Upload/Create > Upload Files.
  • From the Add a File overlay, select OneDrive Files.
  • Select your OneDrive file from the list that appears in the Add a File overlay. Select the Add button.

or

  • Navigate to Content and the Module where the OneDrive file is to be placed.
  • Select Existing Activities > OneDrive.
  • On the Add Activity overlay, select your OneDrive file. Select the Select button.

Student OneDrive Files as Submissions and Attachments

Students can submit their OneDrive files to their Brightspace Assignments and Discussions. A file submitted in this way is a copy created at the time of submission. This means that changes made in OneDrive afterward will not be reflected in the Assignment or Discussion submission.
