Desire2Learn Selected

Washburn University has been evaluating three vendor products (Blackboard, Desire2Learn, and Canvas) to replace our current learning management system ANGEL. At the end of November, the Faculty IT Advisory Council, the Online Education Committee, and the Technology Steering Committee met to discuss the input from faculty, staff, and students, and to recommend an LMS for our campus. The recommended system is Desire2Learn and was approved by the Board of Regents on Friday, Dec. 7th, 2012. An additional Analytics tool-set from Desire2Learn was also recommended for tracking and reporting learning outcome data.  The committees and council also voted to recommend required training for faculty who will use it to teach fully online courses given its more robust features and complex navigation.  Many of you attended the presentations from Blackboard, Desire2Learn, and Canvas, worked online in the sand-boxes, reviewed the recordings, participated in conference calls with the vendors, and have provided valuable feedback during this evaluation process and we THANK YOU for your participation in this very important process/evaluation for our campus! We look forward to this new system and will be working diligently to transition to Desire2Learn and to provide many learning opportunities for the campus community in the near future. Again thank you for your input and participation
